Rebecca Hayes, John Mix and Abel Frisbie

"Now a true story handed down. I think about my great-great grandmother. She married a Capt. Abel Frisbie, U.S.N. Capt. Frisbie master of sailing vessel in West Indies trade. Ship wrecked, had not been heard from home for seven years or from him, so she finally married John Mix of New Haven and bore him a child.

When she was one month old, Capt. Frisbie returned. It was after much difficulty that she should decide between the two husbands. Neither of them had she seen after Capt. Frisbie returned. She was given ten minutes to decide and each allowed the same to plead his cause. She chose the first husband. Mr. Mix agreed but never recovered from the shock."
