Notes |
- Clinton Ansley was born on his parents' farm near Geneva, N.Y. When he was about 10, his parents sold out and moved to the frontier, a river town in western Wisconsin. There he met Ella Cross, another New York native, whose parents had resettled in Minnesota. For a few years Clinton ran a dry goods store with his brother, but then he became a wholesaler and apparently struggled financially. He and Ella raised their two sons in a series of boarding houses in St. Paul and Minneapolis. Genio also went into grocery wholesaling, and Frank went into banking and insurance.
