Inda Cozier lived an unsettled life. Her parents separated when she was about 2 years old. Although her mother immediately remarried and had more children, Inda often lived apart from them, with various relatives. At age 23, Inda married a coal miner and had four children in five years. But then her husband died in a coal-mining accident, and she was left to raise their children alone. She herself died at age 44, when all her children were still teenagers.

Louis Christian Peterson was born in 1876 in Mount Pleasant, Utah. His mother divorced and remarried when he was very young, so he was instead raised in Salt Lake City by his mother and Robert Shimmin, an influential early Mormon settler. Louis married May Gant when he was 25 and she 19. They settled in Salt Lake City and had eight children over the course of 20 years. Louis worked in the iron moulding industry his whole life. He died in 1949 and his wife in 1955.

Jasper Peterson, born to a farming family in Denmark in 1847, was attracted to the early Mormon church in the United States, and emigrated at age 16. He made his way across the Plains to Mount Pleasant in what was then Utah Territory. The rest of his family tried to join him three years later, but half of them died along the way. In 1867, at age 20, he married Anna Louisa Jensen, 28, also of Denmark. They had six children. Before the last was born, Jasper also married Ana Christensen Larson, also from Denmark. With her he had two sons, Louis in 1876 and Charles in 1878. Jasper and Ana soon divorced, around 1800. Jasper was sent on a mission back to his village in Denmark, where he fell ill and died in 1887.

Ana Larson, born in Denmark in 1856, evidently was attracted to the early Mormon settlement, because she emigrated to the United States when just 17 and made her way to Utah. Two years later, she married Jasper Peterson, also of Denmark, as his second wife, alongside his first wife, who was 17 years older. Ana and Jasper soon had two children, but they then divorced.

She married Robert Shimmin, an influential early Mormon adherent from the Isle of Man. She was 24; he was 56; she was his third concurrent wife. She and her sons moved with Robert to Salt Lake City, where they had five children together. He then left her, to return to the children of his second wife.

Ana died at age 51, having raised seven children.
