Jennie Reed Baldwin obituary

Mrs. Jennie Baldwin

Joined the Silent Majority on the Other Shore

Once more the advent of the death angel, although expected, brings sorrow to those near and dear, and deep regret to many, very many, warm friends. It had been known for several days that rs. Jennie M. Baldwin was nearing the end of life's journey, and at 10:25 Sunday evening she passed away at her home on Fourth St.

She had been a sufferer many months from acute nervous disorders, at times suffering intensely, but the end came gently and peacefully. She met death with resignation, passing away in full communion with the church.

Mrs. Jennie R. Baldwin was born in Fulton, Ill., March 26, 1838, and there passed her early life until in 1860 she was united in marriage to Wm. E. Baldwin. They removed to Maquoketa, making that city their home for several years, when they came here. Mr. Baldwin preceded his wife by over 13 years, his death occurring July 15, 1882.

Mrs. Baldwin was possessed of true nobility of character, strong of will, unswerving in her friendships, warm-hearted and ever ready to hear the plea of the poor and needy, it is little wonder that her friends were many, and they are sincere in the respect and esteem felt for the departed. She was a member of Grace Episcopal church, and her willing hand will be sadly missed in the charitable work of the church.

She leaves to mourn her los an only daughter Nona, one sister, Mrs. J.B. hall of Omaha, Neb., and one brother, J.H. Reed, of Clinton. The brother and sister named are all that are left of the original family of six children, and both parents have also passed away.

To those bereaved is extended the tender, thoughtful sympathy of scores of sincere friends.

-- Unidentified Lyons, Iowa, newspaper clipping, in 'Hall Bible Records,' LDS microfiche 6019115.
